汽车产业，或称汽车工业[1]，是生产汽车有关的工业，包括研发、制造同销售等范畴，是世界上一种比较常见的重工业，是目前世界主要经济支柱之一。

汽车产业可以追溯至1860年代，数以百计的小型生产商各自制造无马车（英语：Horseless carriage）。在最初的好几十年，美国在生产量上一直高据榜首。在1929年大萧条以前，全世界的汽车数量为32,028,500辆，当中超过90％为美国生产。当时，美国平均每4.87人有1辆汽车[2]。1945年以后，美国生产的汽车依然占全球生产量的75％。美国的龙头地位于1980年被日本取代。中国在2009年则超越了日本[3]。

经济

2007年，世上有8亿辆汽车或轻型货车在路面上行驶，每年消耗燃油达9.8兆升[4]。汽车是已发展国家的重要交通工具。波士顿咨询公司曾经估计，于2014年或之前，三分之一的汽车需求将会来自金砖四国，而来自已发展国家的需求将会放缓[5]。

2013年：中国（25.4%）、印度、韩国、巴西及墨西哥的总产量升至全球的43%，而美国（12.7%）、日本、德国、法国及英国的总产量则跌至34%.
